      Luscher test is based on the assumption that the choice of color often reflects the focus of the subject on a certain activity, mood, functional status and the most stable personality traits.

Foreign psychologists sometimes used Luscher test for career guidance in the selection of personnel, the acquisition of the production teams, ethnic"; gerontological studies, with recommendations on the selection of marriage partners. The meaning of the colors in their psychological interpretation were identified during the survey numerous diverse contingent of different subjects.

Characteristics of colors (according to Max Luscher) includes 4 basic and 4 additional colors.

Main color:

1) blue — symbolizes peace, contentment;

2) blue-green — a sense of confidence, persistence, stubbornness sometimes;

3) orange-red — symbolizes the strength of willpower, aggressive, offensive tendencies, agitation;

4) light yellow — activity, desire to communicate, expansiveness, and gaiety.

If there is a conflict in optimal condition main color should occupy mainly the first five positions.

Optional color:

5) purple; 6) brown 7) black 8) zero(0).

Represent negative tendencies: anxiety, stress, experiencing fear, frustration. The meaning of these colors (as main) is mostly determined by their relative position, distribution position, as will be illustrated below.

Manual (psychologist): "Shuffle the color cards and place the color surface to the top. Ask the subject to choose from eight colors that which he loves most. Thus it is necessary to explain that should he choose the color as such, not trying to correlate it with your favorite color in clothes, color of eyes, etc. the Subject must select the most pleasing Color of the eight. The card with the selected color should be set aside, turning the colored side down. Ask them to choose from the remaining seven colors are the most pleasant. The selected card should put the color side down to the right of the first. Repeat the above procedure. Write down the card numbers in the unfolded order. After 2-3 min again put the cards color side up and do the same. In this case, explain that you don't have to remember the order of pickup in the first choice and consciously change previous order. It needs to choose colors like and for the first time.

The first choice in the Luscher's test characterizes the desired state, and the second is valid. Depending on the purpose of the study is to interpret the results of appropriate testing."

As a result of testing received eight positions; first and second clear preference (indicated by + + );

third and fourth — preference (indicated by x x);

fifth and sixth — indifference to the color (indicated by = = );

seventh and eighth — antipathy to the color (indicated by — —)

Based on the analysis of more than 36,000 of research results M. lüscher gave an exemplary description of the selected items:

1st position reflects a means of achieving the goal (e.g. selection of blue color indicates the intention to act calmly, without undue stress);

2 shows the position of the goal sought by the subject;

The 3rd and 4th positions characterize the preference of color and reflect the true feeling of the subjects in a situation in which it is located or a course of action that tells him the situation;

5th and 6th positions characterize the indifference to color, a neutral attitude toward it. They seem to indicate that the subject does not associate their condition, mood, motifs with data colors. However, in certain situations this position may include back treatment of color, for example, blue color (color of peace) is postponed temporarily as inappropriate for the situation;

7th and 8th positions characterize a negative attitude to color, the desire to suppress a need, a motive, a mood reflected by the color.

Recording of the selected colors is carried out by the list of numbers in order of preference with the indication of positions. For example, if you select red, yellow, blue, gray, green, purple, brown and black, you will write:

Zones (+ +; x x; = = - - -) form 4 functional groups.

The interpretation of test results

As noted, one of the methods of interpretation of the results of the selection is to assess the situation of primary colors. If they take the position then fifth, then, summarizes their properties, the requirements are not satisfied, therefore, we have the anxious, negative state.

Discusses the relative position of the primary colors. When, for example, No. 1 and 2 (blue and yellow) are adjacent (forming functional group) underlines their common subjective intent "inside". The joint position of colors 2 and 3 (green and red) indicates the autonomy, independence in decision-making, initiative. The combination of colors No. 3 and 4 (red and yellow) emphasizes the direction "outward". The combination of colors No. 1 and 4 (blue and yellow) enhances performance based on subjects from the environment. The combination of colors No. 1 and 3 (blue and red) one group emphasizes a favorable balance based on the environment and the subjective direction (blue) and autonomy orientation to the "outside" (red color). The combination of green and yellow flowers (No. 2 and 4) is considered as opposed to the subjective desire "inside", the autonomy of the stubborn desire to "outside", depending on the medium.

The main colors, according to Max Lusher, symbolize the following psychological needs:

1 (blue) - the need for satisfaction, tranquility, sustained positive affection;

2 (green) - the need for self-assertion;

№ 3 (red) - the need to actively act and achieve success;

№ 4 (yellow) - the need for perspective, hopes for the best, dreams.

If the main colors are in 1st — 5th positions, it is considered that these needs to some extent satisfied, how satisfied are perceived; if they are in the 6th — 8th positions, is any conflict, anxiety, dissatisfaction due to adverse circumstances. Reject the color can be seen as a source of stress. For example, reject the blue color indicates dissatisfaction with the lack of peace, attachment.

Max Lüscher took into account the possibilities for evaluating performance in the course of color selection analysis based on the following assumptions:

The green color characterizes the flexibility of volitional manifestations in the difficult conditions of activities, which ensures the maintenance of health.

Red color characterizes the strength of will and sense of satisfaction with the desire to achieve the goal that also promotes the maintenance of health.

Yellow shields hopes for success, the spontaneous satisfaction in participating in activities (sometimes without a clear awareness of its details), the orientation for further work.

If all these three colors are at the beginning of the series and all together, then more productive activity is likely, higher efficiency. If they are in the second half of the series and are separated from each other, the forecast is less favorable.

Indicators of anxiety. If the main color is on the 6th place, it is indicated by —, and all the others that are behind him (7th — 8th position), are denoted by the same symbol. They should be considered as reject color as a cause of anxiety, negative state.

In the Lusher test, such cases are additionally marked with the letter A above the color number and the sign - for example:

Indicators of compensation. In the presence of a source of stress, anxiety (expressed in any primary color, is placed on the 6-th and 8-th positions) color, put in 1st position, is seen as an indicator of compensation (compensating motive, mood, behavior). In this case over the figure, zanimalsia 1st place, put the letter S. it is believed the phenomenon is more or less normal, when the compensation is one of the primary colors. At the same time, the mere presence of increased stress and payment always indicate a lack of optimality condition.

In those cases, when the payment is due to the additional colors, the test results are interpreted as indicators of the negative state, the negative motive, negative attitude towards environmental situation.

The alarm intensity indicators are characterized by the position occupied by the primary colors. If the main color is in 6th place, the factor causing the alarm is considered relatively weak (this is indicated by one exclamation point); If the color is in 7- and positions, two exclamation marks are put (!!); If the main color in the 8th position, three characters are put (!!!). Thus, up to 6 signs can be supplied, characterizing sources of stress, anxiety, for example:

Similarly, cases of unfavorable compensation are assessed in the Lusher test. If the compensation is any of the primary colors or purple, no signs are placed. If the gray, brown or black color occupies the third position, one exclamation mark is placed, if the 2nd position, two signs (!!) are placed, if the first position is put three signs (!!!). Thus, there can be 6 of them, for example:

It is believed that the more "!" Signs, the more unfavorable the forecast.

Taking into account the obtained test results, it is advisable to make arrangements for the regulation and self-regulation of mental conditions, autogenic training. Re-testing after such events (in combination with other techniques) can provide information on reducing anxiety, tension.

Of particular importance in interpreting test results is the color estimate in the last 8th position (or in the 4th functional group, if there are two colors with the sign -). If the colors in this position are marked with exclamation marks, then the likelihood of developing a state of anxiety is quite high.

Pay attention to the ratio of the first and eighth positions, is there any compensation, is it built in the normal scheme?

Can be analyzed the ratio of colors in the second and third positions (the desired goal and the actual situation). If there's conflict between them? For example, the colour red in second and gray in third positions symbolize the conflict between goal motives and self-esteem of his real condition.

Analyzing and interpreting the results of Lusher's test, the psychodiagnostic information obtained should be compared with the materials of the questionnaire, observation, interviews, examination of documents about the subjects. Only with such a comprehensive study of personality can you make any serious conclusions about personality traits, its psychological characteristics.

The same should be said about the prospects for the use of test results for condition assessment, in particular emotional States, tension, anxiety. However, the coincidence of the performance of the color test (choice of colors No. 6, 7, 0 in first position) and the results of questionnaires and observations allows a greater confidence to judge the development of the subjects of different negative conditions.
